    A vintage carved oriental turtle for good luck ..... from a precious stone - purchased at an estate auction in the 1970's (along with scent bottles and a satsuma vase)– this turtle has its own custom stand and as shown in the photos this turtle has been touched and rubbed many times over the years for good fortune etc. This turtle measures about 9 inches long by 4 inches wide and is quite heavy.
    The Japanese see the turtle as a symbol of good fortune and longevity. The turtle has been described as a positive omen bringing 10,000 years of happiness, as well a symbol of fertility, vitality, and great patience. The Chinese believed turtles foretold future events.
